Peg Murphy is also on the sick list and Kay Quinn is recuperating from knee and from eye surgery. all need your prayers and thoughts. CORRESPONDENCE: Letter from the Jewish War Veterans of America on their Breakfast Feb 2011 IRS Notice on the 04 number of the Detachment. The Adjutant sent the requested letter PO Box renewal notice and the Detachment authorized the funds to renew the box. e-mail from school teacher T. Brook complimenting the Detachment on the web page. E-mail notifying the Detachment that R. Hoffman is the new Department Chaplain. Card from Dick Sullivan thanking the Detachment members at his anniversary party. OLD BUSINESS: The Commandant updated the Detachment on the recent controversy with the National office concerning the R and R muster held at the Burlington Marriott Hotel. He did receive an apology for the untrue and unkind remarks made to him from the National Executive Director and some National and Department officers. Arthur did receive support from other Detachments in the State and from units from other States. A total of 96 applications to join the League were given out. Three have joined the League (not all in our Detachment) and 7 tickets to our ball were sold. Toys for Tots was discussed and at various meeting some active duty Marines have shown interest in joining the Detachment. A report of the Ball was given. The food as was last year was very good, The band played good dance music, the raffle was a success, with all the bills paid the net to the ball committee is $16500 to be used to next years ball. The date for the ball will be November 12, 2011. 1800 cocktails, ceremony at 1900 dinner 17 1930. The cost for the meal is $30.20 per person.
New Business: A grievance on behalf of Marine Paul Sorensen being illegally transferred from our Detachment to another was discussed. The Grievance was filed with the National Office and the Detachment is waiting for a reply. The Toys for Tots was again updated by Arthur—over 3,700 families are waiting to receive toys, 81 agencies are waiting, 37 agencies have been given the toys requested and 38 pods are being used. The elected officers were installed by past Department Commandant Larry Rice. He broke down and cried and thanked the Detachment. The Ball was a success. We had a surplus of $160. Next year it will be November 12, 2011. Paul Keating had a stroke and is in the New England rehab Center Woburn. He is in room 301. All need your prayers and thoughts. CORRESPONDENCE: Thank you letter from The Hardy Family Letter from the National Commandant pertaining to the MCL Member in uniform supporting a candidate for public office. This is against the national by-laws. Lists from the Department concerning delinquent members Article from National MCL on Eagle Scout award Newspaper article on Burlington Detachment presenting an Eagle Scout Award. Wreaths across the Nation Tabled. OLD BUSINESS: Commandant explained the mix up with Paul Sorensen not receiving MCL Mail. In 2008 someone from the Department of Ma transferred Paul into the Jennifer Harris Detachment. We do not know who did this. It was not legal. The Commandant did not know this nor did Paul. The Adjutant will file a grievance with the Department JA Do not forget the Ball November 12, 2010. Webb site corrections will be made. Updates on the election poll times was presented. The Marine Corps League will be 1400 to 1700. The Burlington Detachment will be responsible for Veterans Day in 2012 and Memorial Day 2013.Toys for Tots web site is not the same as last year. Arthur has to use the national site. The Building to be used is the same as last year (63 South Ave Rear Burlington Ma.) Arthur was appointed as the Co-ordinater for our area by the Toys for Tots Foundation. Paul Porter appointed Arthur as the Department of Ma co-ordinator. Marine Corps Reserve will no longer sponsor Toys for Tots. Dilboy Post VFW in Davis Square Somerville will again host a Birthday party on November 10th with all proceeds going to Toys for Tots. !700 until the close of the bar. All are invited. New Business: Commandant passed out 3 ring binders to the elected officers. Certificate of appreciation will be presented to Sean Harrington, a senior at Arlington High School, for his work on getting the Pledge of Allegiance back into Arlington High School. CORRESPONDENCE: Thank you letter from Fern Patterson Post card from the Semper Fi Society on the luncheon. 4 Chaplain Awards letter. Letter from Veterans Agent concerning out of town Veterans Group soliciting in Burlington. He sent a letter to the merchants asking them to allow only the Town Veterans to do the soliciting. Carl Jewitt representing the Mesothelioma Group asked us to put a link to his group on our web site. It was approved. Letter on the Quad State Convention was received. The dates are 4/15 to 4/17 in Portsmouth NH Boston Globe article on Mike Welsch. Lists from the Department concerning delinquent members OLD BUSINESS: Thank you Arthur Enos, Jack Bowles, Tony Buscemi, Tom Sawyer, Norm Dobson, Paul Sorensen, Warren Quinn, Dick Skinner, Paul Keating, George Sheldon, Gerry Boutin, and Dave Epps, along with Pat Marshall, Eleanor Skinner, Berl Nicholas for participating in the services for Carl. They were at either or both services, Thank you. The enclosed forms should be filled out and kept in a location for the next of Kin. This eases the burden for those overseeing services for deceased Veterans. These two additional forms ease the burden on the loved ones on your passing. Thank you to Arthur Enos for these forms. The Marine Memorial looked good with the pruning and the flowers. Thank you to George Sheldon, Tony Buscemi, Bill Flaherty, Jack Bowles, Warren Quinn, for helping with the Memorial Day Services. Do not forget the Ball November 12, 2010. Nominations for election will be at the October meeting New Business: A couple of corrections to the web site will be made: Membership form and renewal forms are missing, calendar is missing some details. Paul Sorensen will have them fixed. Paul Porter is the New Department of Massachusetts Commandant. Commandant will have 3 ring binders ready soon to be used by the officers and passed to the incoming officer. Lapel pins were discussed and the cost is .85 each. These would be used as a recruitment and fund raising article. This will be addressed in October at the meeting. We also will need flags for Memorial Day. The warehouse will be ready to operate by October. It will be a great year with your help. All distribution for Middlesex and Essex Counties will be from Burlington to the agencies distributing the toys.
